Great night had by all – Review from The Examiner
Great night had by all !
Dave Stewart and Friends at The Roxy
One half of Eurythmics; Dave Stewart played an special show at The Roxy last night. In August Stewart performed 3 nights at the Hollywood Bowl with a number of special guests to commemorate the Beatles’ 50th Anniversary, and earlier this year reunited with Annie Lennox to perform at the “Night That Changed America.” The opener last night was the incredible 16-year old singer Hollie Stephenson, who also sang later with Stewart. Stephenson took the stage at 8:45 and Stewart around 9:30. Stewart had a fairly large group with horns, back up singers, guitar, keyboard, violin, bass, and drums.
With December 8th, being 34 years since the passing of John Lennon, Stewart told the story of how him and Lennox heard the news and played one of Lennon’s song as a tribute. Throughout the show, Stewart played a number of guitars including a Takamine acoustic, silver Fender Stratocaster, a Dusenberg, with very decorated straps that each said something on it such as “Ringmaster.” Stewart brought out his daughter Kaya for a few songs including the encore “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These).” To simply put it Stewart is a musical genius as a singer, writer, musician, and producer (Tom Petty, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks..) A Dave Stewart show is always a lot of fun.
